Choosing the right equipment for your horses
Horse Riding is a long time activity that dates back many centuries; it is now the basis of many sports, farming and transport. This has brought about a wide range of different equipment that horses can have or use to fulfil the purpose they have to undertake. A lot of equipment is made for specific purposes and so if you buy the wrong equipment you could end up not only wasting valuable money but also end up with a horse that becomes irritable or un-co-operative. There are items like the saddle which need to be comfortable for the rider as much as it is comfortable for the horse. As just mentioned horses that are uncomfortable or in pain can become irritable and considering the size of the animal it can become a serious risk to humans near to the horse. Many Saddles are made for the type of horse riding being done, for instance a show jumping or dressage saddle will have high front and pack parts to help hold the rider in place for big jumps and increased movement. For riding a horse across countryside you may want a saddle with lower front and back sections. A vital piece of equipment that the rider must wear is a riding helmet, many riding schools insist all riders, regardless of their ability, wear a riding helmet. You will even see riders wearing helmets in professional sports such as horse racing and dressage, even at such a high level of experience and understanding you are still riding a wild animal and this animal can be startled and accidents may happen. Reins are important to help direct the horse both in direction and speed, pulling back on the reins will normally bring the horse to a stop or at very least slow them down. There are plenty of different types of reins and bridles available which may vary depending on the horse or the riding style. There are other equipment that may not be vital but depending on the horse such as wearing blinders if the horse is nervous which can happen when horses are ridden on roads and may spook if they encounter other road users. There are a lot of other horse equipment that may be needed for when they are not being ridden such as blankets or rugs that keep them warm during winter, these are needed more for horses that are kept in fields rather than stables. Whilst owning a horse can be considered as being expensive there are ways you can save money on buying horse tack online , and horse grooming kits to help look after your horse properly.
