How can I calm myself down when this happens?
Okay, so when I am riding my horse I sometimes get really scared and just kind of freeze up and stop breathing and my stomach is full of butterflies :S Do you know of any natural ways that I can calm down? Any special way of breathing? Any herbal remedies? Anything!
Please help!
Taking deep breaths and slooooowly exhaling is a way to slow down your central nervous system.
Do you think there’s a reason why you’re scared? Did something bad happen that you started feeling nervous while riding? Did you take a fall or did a horse scare you in some way? Horseback riding can be dangerous, so I think it’s normal to feel some fear, but the key is to work through it. There are ways to make yourself feel calmer with breathing, but the a question you can ask yourself is “what am I afraid of?” Sometimes just reassuring yourself that there’s nothing to be fearful of can relax you. Also, you are starting to associate this feeling with riding so your brain is expecting to feel this way every time you get on a horse. You just have to break the pattern.
